Standard Specifications and Details

The purpose of the City of Asheville's Standard Specifications and Details is to provide a resource for various design and construction professionals inside city and within its Extra Territorial Jurisdictions (ETJ). The standards shall apply to all construction on public property, rights-of-way and private property to ensure safety and functionality of systems serving residents and/or connecting to systems maintained by the City of Asheville.

The City of Asheville Standard Specifications and Details were adopted by the City Council on May 20, 1997, and became effective on May 27, 1997. They are continually reviewed by the city engineer who may implement minor revisions without formal City Council adoption. Collections of revisions, however, will be reviewed and duly adopted by the City Council periodically. The latest revision became effective March 28, 2000.

The public can purchase a paper copy of City of Asheville Standard Specifications and Details manual for $25 and a CDROM of the standard details in AutoCAD format for $100. Purchases can be made in the Transportation and Engineering Department located on the Mezzanine level of City Hall. The purchaser of the manual and CDROM shall receive all updates and revisions when they become available. The Transportation and Engineering Department shall notify all previous purchasers offering updates at no charge.

Upon adoption by the City Council, the revisions will be properly edited and the page(s) and AutoCAD file(s) will be sent to those which have previously purchased copies. It will be the responsibility of the holder of this volume to maintain their up-to-date copies of the Asheville Standard Specifications and Details by inserting the revisions as revisions are sent out. If you do not prefer to purchase the manual, it can be viewed online using the index and table below.
